Rajiv has come of age; his now-dead father had built up a flourishing business and had become a millionaire, and his widowed Mother wants to keep Rajiv on the straight and narrow. The best way would be to find him a good wife to encourage him to settle down. But Rajiv is having none of it, and runs off to the family's summer house in Srinagar to enjoy life. But en route he has to stay overnight at a country inn because of a bridge collapse. Mr Mohan is staying there for the same reason, with a group of girls her was taking to the fair in Srinagar. Rajiv has to sleep under the stairs, and during the night Champa spills some water on him; they talk, but she keeps her distance. The next day they meet again by chance, and when she sees he is driving a big car, she is cool with him; when she thought he was poor, he was attractive, but now that she thinks he is rich, she is put off. He tells her that he is the driver for a rich man, and she talks to him some more. At Srinagar, he finds that his valet has hired out his house for the season to some girls, and he has to find accommodation in the town. The romance between Champa and Rajiv develops, to the chagrin of the nasty Mohan, who himself has designs on her. Champa?s father Dinu is persuaded to forbid Champa to go to the fair with Rajiv, as she had planned. But Rajiv is not so easily thwarted, and dressed as a female in purdah, he gets a lift on the truck that is taking the girls. A song and dance number on the back of the moving truck then takes place. Mohan persists in alarming Dinu, who is blind, about Champa's intentions, and it emerges that Dinu is not the natural father of Champa, but that he kidnapped her as a baby from a rich Delhi merchant. Wealthy and pampered Rajivlal is the only son of widowed Rani Maa. She would like him to get married and starts receiving proposals from all over the country. She meets with and interviews various prospective brides, and picks one for him, only to have him reject her. To escape her wrath, he runs off to their bungalow in Kashmir together with his friend, Chander. Upon arrival, he finds that his Estate Manager, Bholaram, has made a Hotel out of their bungalow and has even rented out some rooms for the season. He confronts the Manager, and both compromise. He meets Champa, who sells flowers for a living, and both in love. They plan to marry, but surprisingly Champa's dad, Dinu, is opposed to this marriage. To complicate matters even more, Rajivlal finds out that he is not the son of Rani Maa, and he goes about to find his real identity. It is now up to Rani Maa to find out why Dinu is refusing to permit Champa to marry Rajivlal, and who his real parents are?

Samuel Bourne (1834–24 April 1912) was a British photographer known for his work in India.The studio business prospered, and in 1866, they opened a second branch in Calcutta. In 1867 he went briefly back to England, in order to marry Mary Tolley, daughter of a wealthy Nottingham businessman; and they both returned to India again later that year, where he continued to travel around the country, producing some 500 more fine images, before departing from Bombay to return permanently to England, in November 1870. His work as travelling landscape and architectural photographer for Bourne & Shepherd studios was taken over by Colin Murray, who continued taking fine images of India, in a very similar style, and later went on to take over the management of the business.
Bourne settled back in Nottingham, where he founded a cotton-doubling business, in partnership with his brother-in-law J.B. Tolley. Some time shortly after his return to England, he sold off his interests in Bourne and Shepherd studios, and from then on, had nothing more to do with commercial photography; however his archive of some 2,200 glass plate negatives remained with the studio, and were constantly re-printed and sold, over the following 140 years, until their eventual destruction, in a fire at Bourne & Shepherd’s present studio in Calcutta,
on February 6th 1991.

He became a very successful and prosperous Nottingham businessman; founding the Britannia Cotton Mills, and becoming a local magistrate. Although continuing to photograph as a relaxation, and belonging to the local Photographic Society, much of his creative energy from this time onwards was devoted to water-colour painting. He died in Nottingham on 24th April 1912.
Bourne is justly regarded as one of the finest landscape and travel photographers of 19th century India; combining a fine eye for composition with high technical expertise. He wrote extensively about his travels in the Himalayas (one of the very few photographers in India to do so), in a long series of letters, which appeared in The British Journal of Photography, between 1863 and 1870.

Mr O.P. Bhatt, Managing Director, State Bank of India, has been appointed Chairman of the bank. The five-year term of Mr Bhatt will expire in March 2011. His will be the longest tenure as SBI chairman in the recent past.
Mr Bhatt took charge as the Managing Director, in-charge of national banking at SBI in April. Prior to this he was the MD, State Bank of Travancore.
Mr T.S. Bhattacharya, the other SBI MD, was appointed as acting chairman, following the retirement of Mr A.K. Purwar as chairman in May. However, Mr Bhattacharya did not have a two-year residual service, necessary for the post of chairman.
The announcement of Mr Bhatt's appointment came on Friday at the SBI annual general meeting in Mumbai.
It was during his tenure as MD of SBT that the bank had implemented core-banking solution in all its branches.
Starting his career as a probationary officer in SBI in 1972, Mr Bhatt held several key assignments in the bank. He served as Managing Director of State Bank of Travancore from January 2005 to April 2006.

Fardeen Khan to face trial for drug possession
Trouble is once again brewing for Bollywood actor Fardeen Khan for he will have to face trial for possession of banned substance after the Bombay High Court rejected his application on Thursday for undergoing detoxification.
Khan, who was arrested in May 2001 by Narcotics Control Bureau in suburban Juhu when he was allegedly about to buy one gram of cocaine from a drug peddler, had approached the HC for detoxification after sessions court rejected his application in September 2006
Khan had sought immunity from facing trial by admitting that he was purchasing cocaine for personal consumption as he was an addict and was willing to undergo medical treatment in any government institution.

The court has however granted liberty to Khan to reapply in the session's court with proper material to show that he is an addict and that the cocaine was for self consumption.
Khan had approached the HC to undergo detoxification as allowed under section 64(A) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act which permits immunity from prosecution. The NDPS Act permits an accused to apply for detoxification under section 64(A) if he is found in possession of small quantity of drugs for personal consumption. If the court is satisfied that he has successfully undergone detoxification, the prosecution may withdraw charges.
The section states that an "addict" can claim immunity from prosecution if he voluntarily agrees to undergo complete medical treatment. If he comes out clean than he does not have to face trial, Public prosecutor Poornima Kantharia had argued while opposing Khan's plea.
Under the Act, the accused has to prove that he is an addict to claim immunity, which the actor failed to do.
Khan had failed to prove through any documentary evidence that he had undergone any medical treatment earlier following which he has come over his addiction.
Khan had admitted that he had purchased one gram of cocaine on four to five occasions to overcome work stress. "That would not make him an addict and show that he is dependent on drugs. Merely on his statement it cannot be concluded that it was for personal consumption," said Kantharia.
Khan was arrested in May 2001 by Narcotics Control Bureau in suburban Juhu when he was allegedly about to buy one gram of cocaine from a drug peddler. He was released on bail later.
The NCB had seized nine grams of cocaine from the peddler Nasir Khan who told police that the actor wanted to buy just one gram of cocaine for personal consumption. However, the chargesheet against him has said Khan was in possession of nine grams and not one gram of cocaine.

SBI plans to merge all associate bank by March 2009
The country’s largest commercial bank, State Bank of India has announced that the bank plans to merge all the associate banks with itself by March 2009. The move comes at a time when SBI is gearing up for a rights issue which, at an estimated Rs 17,000 crore, is one of the biggest mop ups from the domestic capital markets. The bank is looking to consolidate its position as a global giant with its balance sheet expected to grow manifold. SBI had earlier this month approved merger of State Bank of Saurashtra with itself.
Mr. O P Bhatt, Chairman, SBI said, “Once we get the cabinet nod for merger of State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH), it will set the ball rolling for the merger of the other associate banks. The issue of consolidation of associate banks was taken up only by the boards of SBI and SBH. The boards of other banks have not been sounded about the merger plans.”
SBI has 100% stake in three associate banks — SBH, SBP and SBS —while in others its equity holding ranges from 75% to 98%.
Mr. Bhatt further added, “Once the SBI-SBH merger is through, the consolidation of other entities should not take long as most of the ground work has been done and only the execution is left and It has to happen before March 2009.”
The associate banks are State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Travancore, State Bank of Indore, State Bank of Saurashtra and State Bank of Mysore. The associate banks have together posted a year-on-year growth of 16.85 per cent in net profit at the end of September 2007.
G D Nadaf, General Secretary, All India State Bank Officer's Federation's (AISBOF) said, “The decision of the board to meet on January 25, to consider the merger, is quite unilateral. The federation along with the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and State Bank of India Staff Federation (AISBISF) will meet on January 3, where we will discuss the merger issue and the future course of the protest."
Sources said, once the proposed mergers are completed, SBI’s asset size will become more than double of ICICI Bank. The private sector banking major ICICI Bank is currently the closest competitor to SBI.
The Bank presently holds market cap worth Rs. 1,26,206 crore, PE Ratio of 22.56. The stock is fairly priced with an EPS of 106.32 and BV of 594.69. The firm had showed a net profit of Rs 1611 crore for the quarter ended September 2007 as against Rs. 1184 crore in same quarter of last year.
At 12:30 PM, the share was trading at Rs 2397 on NSE, up by 3% with previous close of Rs. 2334. It touched an intraday high of Rs 2413 and low of Rs 2351.

exhibited certain symptoms which experts affirm or deny to be the
symptoms of that poison, is relevant.
(b) The question is, whether an obstruction to a harbour is
caused by a certain sea-wall.
The fact that other harbours similarly situated in other
respects, but where there were no such sea-walls, began to be
obstructed at about the same time, is relevant.

This remote place came into prominence when Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru planned to build the first swadeshi steel plant with the help of the Soviets. The proximity to coal, iron ore, manganese, and other raw materials helped in the selection of this place. The steel plant was originally incorporated as a limited company on 29 January 1964,
and was later merged with SAIL and came to be known as Bokaro Steel Limited(BSL). The late 1960s and early 1970s saw heavy construction of the steel plant as well as the township. The first blast furnace started on 2 October 1972.
CISF Association of 27 June 1979
The members of the CISF Unit at Bokaro had formed an all-India association in March 1979 and Sadanand Jha, was elected as its General Secretary. Thereafter, a country wide agitation was carried on for recognition of the said association. In June 1979 some of the members of the said association were called upon to meet the Home Minister at Delhi. A delegation of the said association went to Delhi. While there ; they staged a demonstration. Some of the demonstrators, including Sadanand Jha, were arrested,but subsequently released on bail. At Bokaro Steel Plant, the agitation which was going on; and assumed aggravated from 27th May, 1979. "Whereas a large group of members of Central Industrial Security Force (hereinafter referred to as the Force) of CISF Unit, Bokaro Steel Ltd.,Bokaro took out processions and raised slogans such as 'INQULAB ZINDABAD';'VARDI VARDI VARDI BHAI BHAI LARKE LENGE PAI PAIJO HAMSE TAKRAYEGE CHOOR CHOOR HO JAYEGA'and'PUNJAB KI JEET HAMARI HAI AAB CISF KI BARI HAI',participating in the gherao of Supervisory Officers, participating hunger strike and 'dharna' near the Quarter Guard and Administrative Building of CISF Unit, Bokaro Steel Ltd., since 27th May 1979 in violation of the provisions of CISF Act,1968. Out of 1900 persons belonging to CISF Unit, Bokaro Steel Plant, Bokaro about 1000 persons participated in the processions and violent demonstrations.The said agitation and the violent activity reached a very serious proportion in the last week of June, 1979 with the result that Army had to be called by the State Authorities on 23.6.1979, so as to restore normalcy in the area. The State Government had also deployed 9 Magistrates to assist the Army authorities as also the CRPF for restoring the normal conditions at the Bokaro Steel Plant. On 24.6.1979, on seeing the arrival of the Army, the agitators started making preparations for armed resistance by putting up sand bags, flood lights and barricades in the CISF Lines.They had gained the control of CISF Lines and the Officers were not allowed to have any access to the Lines or to other ranks of CISF. On 25.6.1979, the Army along with 9 Magistrates took up positions round the CISF Lines in the early hours and called upon the agitators to give up charge of the Armoury. Inspite of giving repeated warnings by the authorities to give up charge of the Armoury, the agitators did not give up arms, but, instead, resorted to violence. The agitators started firing at 0320 hours at the Army. The Army returned the fire. The said exchange of fire continued for 3 hours before the Army could spell out the violent retaliation of the agitators. The said violent exchange of fire resulted in the instant death of one Army Major and 2 more Army personnel were also killed as a result of firing by the CISF personnel.It may also be stated that there were 22/29 deaths in the course of the said pitched battle, which went on for three hours between the violent armed agitators and the Army.
Parashnath Hills - Parasnath Hills are a range of hills located in Giridih district of Jharkhand. The highest peak is 1350 metres. It is one of the most important pilgrimage centre for Jains. They call it Sammet Sikhar. The hill is named after Parasnath, the 23rd Tirthankara. Twenty of the twenty-four Jain Tirthankaras attained salvation on this hill. According to some, nine Tirthakaras attained salvation on this hill. For each of them there is a shrine (gumti or tuk) on the hill. Some of the temples on the hill are believed to be more than 2,000 years old. However, although the place is habited from ancient times, the temples may be of more recent origin. The Santhals call it Marang Buru, the hill of the deity. They celebrate a hunting festival on the full moon day in Baisakh (mid April).
